Wife and I spray stained and put in the front door, took about 10 hours work.
- Un-finished is this list. Un-finished is how 80% of purchases are made.
- You need to create the foundation. There are several ways to do this as the cabins are delivered with very large skids to attach to piers, sit on blocks or rest on pressure-treated railroad ties. Of course you could even have a contractor build you a basement before it arrives.
- Stain it using an oil base
- A skirt like a mobile home. This should be metal or vinyl.
- Buy and install windows and the door. Windows should be vinyl if this is in a snow/cold weather area. Otherwise you can use any type.
- You need to stain the logs, we highly recommend using oil-based solutions. Many people use old oil mixed with diesel. No surprise as this has been going on for generations with great results. The smell goes away completely and it’s just as flammable as any other oil-base after a couple weeks.
- Chinking, it’s like caulking the outside logs. This is time consuming, if you have not done this before, using manual tools on a 14×24 can take 40 hours. As an option you can have it arrive stained and chinked.
- Stain the inside walls. Chink if desired (looks better if you do).
- Put drywall or green board on the inside wall framing.
- Install GFI outlets and electrical switches.
- Install Bath, Toilet, Kitchen counter/cabinets/light fixtures and appliances, etc.
- Connect the cabin to sewer/septic and AC Power.
- Build a nice deck for that 4-foot roof overhang at the doorway, maybe make it a big wrap-around deck.
