Where can I put a Tiny Log Cabin ?
Anywhere you want that’s legal. Fortunately, many states and counties don’t require a building permit for structures under 600 sq ft. Check your codes. Be prepared to learn about sheds, cabins, dwellings, etc.
Is a Tiny Log Cabin heavy?
Yes, the 14×24 with a 100lb per square foot snow load rating. It weights over 20,000lbs. So it won’t blow away easily. Remember, many of the logs weigh as much as 300lbs.
Our snow load requirement is higher. Is there an option for this?
Yes, even though the engineering drawing says 100lbs, we discovered it’s much higher. However, we do have an option that costs about $1500 and the side and roof are a bit taller and the roof pitch also ends up taller. Additional logs hold up the ceiling, giving an improved super strong look, inside and out. Please, make a note that a metal roof option (also about $1500) allows snow to slip off sooner as snow builds up.
How tall is the ceiling inside?
It is 8 feet on the long side walls and about 12 feet in the center ceiling. As there is no attic or loft, unless you build one inside. There is room for that.
Are these bigger than a tiny home?
Yes, not only do they weigh more, which means they withstand wind, snow and hail better, the average tiny house is 200 sq ft. The inside of the smallest Tiny Log Cabin, 14×24, is 336 sq. ft.
I see a roof overhang, is that standard?
Yes, it is 4 feet from the front door. Enough room to build a small deck instead of just steps.
What if I don’t like the 2ft high x 4ft long windows?
You can change them. If you desire similar dimensions that do not alter the safety structure of the wall the change is free. You get one on each wall, except the door wall.
What about plumbing and electrical?
Once upon a time, not long ago they were sold without floor insulation. However, after-sales support for questions on plumbing and electrical needs cost us too much time on things sold by hardware stores. So, now we include rough plumbing and electric wiring. Then we insulated the floor and covered up the underside. Win-Win as it makes less work for the customer and less work for us explaining the same things over and over.
I hear that chinking between logs is time-consuming, is that true?
Yes, it is true. It’s a bit more time-consuming than caulking. The process is also a bit different. The space between each log should be chinked. But before you chink you should stain first. We do have an option to provide a variety of additions, like doing the staining and chinking for you. For example, the 14×24 takes about 40 hours to chink the outside. The materials are about $1,000, at cost. We can stain and chink the outside for about $4,000 (July 2023). If you put in the time, you save thousands. Isn’t that the way it should be?
Are there window and door options?
Yes, we can provide windows and the door is already installed. Yes, we also have a 4th small bathroom window option. We also have options for a wood stove complete with roof venting. All options must be decided upon the initial purchase time.
